Born Jan. 22, 1951, in Elkins, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Willis Lacey Turner and Iva Jean (Starkey) Turner. In the year 1840 the family came to Wis. and settled in a locality called Hurricane, in the town of Lancaster, Grant county, eight years before this became one of the states of the American Union. and a brother, Dennis. With this uniting, they were blessed with their three daughters and one son. Elba Eastman, 90-year-old retired Platteville lumber dealer, was the model for the Uncle Elby character in the nationally-syndicated cartoon, "Napoleon and Uncle Elby," created and drawn by his nephew, Clifford McBride, until his death several years ago.
